Polygon

What is Polygon?

Polygon is a scaling solution that aims to provide a range of tools and solutions to increase the speed and reduce the cost, environmental impact and complexity of transactions on blockchain networks.

We used the Polygon network for the Estrella Damm La P∞lsera 2023 project for several reasons:

  1. As a project, Polygon is deeply committed to the values of sustainability and decentralisation. In 2022, Polygon launched “The Green Manifesto”, in which it declared its commitment to achieving a negative carbon footprint in the same year.

  2. The Polygon mainnet uses PoS (proof of stake) rather than PoW (proof of work) for transaction validation. Blockchains running on this technology are more efficient, more sustainable and have a much lower environmental impact.

  3. The carbon footprint per average transaction on the Polygon network is approximately equal to the emission of 0.04 grams of CO2 (source: CCRI Polygon update report 2022)

  4. Polygon is a layer two Ethereum-compatible network (Ethereum Virtual Machine) that overcomes the scalability issues of the Ethereum network.

  5. The Polygon network has continued to show strong adoption in the NFT world since OpenSea (the NFT marketplace with the highest volume of sales) added it as a compatible blockchain, with Meta also announcing support for its NFTs on its social media platforms.

  6. As Polygon is a decentralised network, it is not solely and exclusively aimed at one company: anyone can be part of the network and become a validator.

  7. The Estrella Damm La P∞lsera 2023 NFT will be non-transferable, which means that it will always be associated with a wallet and cannot be traded. In total, only three transactions on the Polygon network will be required to complete the project.
